Feather Quilt - pattern by Matching Pegs

A dramatic, extremely quick and easy quilt to make.
As suitable for a new baby as for a teen.

Quilt measures 101cm x 127cm, (40 1/2” x 50 1/2” ).

Requirements

  • 1.4m (OR 1 1/2 yards) of background fabric (charcoal)
  • For the 86 coloured squares:
    • You need 18 different strips of fabric measuring 12 1/2” x 2 1/2”, from three different colour groups. (For the front cover quilt I used
coral pinks, yellows/oranges and dusty purples).
    • Pre-cut jelly rolls are perfect for this, and will yield at least two of these quilts. Alternatively, purchase18 ‘fat eighths’, (smallest cut of fabric sold)
if you are not using fabrics from your stash.
  • For the Applique Feather you will need three coordinating scraps of at least
    24cm x 17cm (9 1/2” x 6 1/2”).
  • Approximately A4-sized piece of double sided fusible webbing, (eg Vlisofix)
  • Applique Mat or non-stick silicon baking paper (eg Glad Bake)
  • 1.2m of 1.5m wide Quilt Batting* (OR 1 1/3 yard of 1 2/3 yard wide Batting)*
  • 1.5m (OR 1 2/3 yard) Quilt backing fabric*
  • 40cm (1/2 yard) of binding fabric OR, if you have used a jelly roll for the coloured squares, use 5 of the remaining strips for the binding.
  • Disappearing fabric marker of your choice
  • Rotary Cutter, perspex ruler and cutting mat.
  • Sewing threads to match fabrics.
  • General Sewing supplies, including an iron.
  • Pencil

* You will need to consult your long-arm-quilter regarding backing and batting quantities, if you are getting your quilt long-arm quilted.

I am no longer designing and selling patterns, but I’m very proud of the work I created, so I have left the patterns detailed here as a record of my endeavours.
