It has been a super busy week here in the house of Matching Pegs. It is school holiday time, so the kids are home and I am busy spending time with them.
Way back, (last Saturday) I went to a workshop with Kellie Wulfson of Don’t Look Now on Free Motion Quilting.
Here you can see Kellie’s capable hands demonstrating her favorite, and achievable free motion quilting patterns.
Amazingly, I discovered that with a little practice, I can do it too. Here is the pillow that I started in the workshop and finished in the following few days.
Do you free motion quilt?
I don’t. But it looks beautiful!
Oh wow Claire.
That looks fantastic!
Wow, what a huge accomplishment – that free wheeling quilting it complicated! Your pillow looks like you’ve been doing it for years

Claire, it’s absolutely beautiful! I think that you definitely have the knack.
Wow, that looks great – as if you’d been doing it for years!
I have only tried once but kept getting stuck in corners – yours look beautiful !
Looks great Claire. You’ve done a fantastic job of the quilting. I haven’t touched mine. My eyes have been too sore with hay fever to concentrate on close work. Hopefully, I’ll get to it next week and then one day you’ll see mine finished!
You did very well! I’m a big fan of Kellie’s work too. I haven’t had the privilege to take one of classes but I’m trying to copy her style on my own.
excellent job claire. I havent even been able to set my machine up since last week 🙁
Your cushion looks fabulous Claire! I’ve not tried free motion quilting yet – I don’t have the right foot for my machine and I can’t lower the feed dogs either, although I do have a little plate that clips over them. I absolutely love all Kellie’s patterns though, so would like to be able to give it a go one day.

Wow, that pillow looks absolutely stunning! I want to free motion quilt, I have purchased the gloves, a new stitch plate and a free motion foot – but I now have to get over my fear of just wasting fabric. Maybe by the end of November.
I am in awe that you first one looks so perfect, and done in a weekend!!
Gosh that looks brilliant. I must come over for a cuppa and pick your brain xxx
Nice job claire, you could make me redundant!
Looks amazing Claire. And I just love the quilt in the background – such wonderfully inviting and restful colours.
lovely dog!
